Al-Habibiyyah organisation, which has now become a household name in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, and beyond, is the brainchild of Imam Fuad Ademola Adeyemi. Imam Adeyemi Ademola Fuad, a University of Ibadan graduate of Arabic and Islamic studies, who for decades has been in active propagation of Islam and the teaching of Arabic language as well as Islamic studies, is the Director. He has participated in many national and international conferences, courses and training programmes. In 2005, he participated in the United States Department run International Visitors Programme. Currently, he presents a number of interactive Islamic religious programme including "Ar-risalah" on NTAPIus, Abuja. He is a known contributor to many Islamic programmes. The Organisation grew from Al-Habibiyyah Academy, an institution that has achieved the hitherto impossible feat of teaching people the reading and understanding of the Holy Qur’an within four months! When Imam Fuad planted the seed of the Academy – and later that of the society – a lot of people thought it would not only fail (because it was said to be a mission impossible) but that its products would also be nowhere as far as the acquisition and application of Islamic knowledge was concerned. Today, however, it is clear that graduates of the Academy are no pushovers in the area of Islamic education. The successes recorded by the Academy and the Society could be attributed to the founder’s prayer in Ka’abba, the holy house in Mecca, when he told Allah about his dream and asked the Almighty to support, sustain and elevate his small efforts. It is obvious Allah (SWT) indeed answered the prayer. Everywhere you go in Abuja today, Al-Habibiyyah’s name echoes far and wide with different programmes meant to change the life of the ordinary Muslim, and even the non-Muslim, for the better. During Muslim festivities, Al-Habibiyyah usually organizes programmes for the benefit of the poor and the indigent, especially in the areas of feeding, clothing, transport fares, and stipends for those in need of such help. A brief outline of the 0rganisation’s programmes include Executive Four-Month Qur’anic Course, Advanced Qur’anic Course, Arabic for Beginners, Jumat prayer, and the As-Salatu prayer session held every Sunday. There are also the Food Bank Programme, through which over 500 indigent persons are fed daily during the month of Ramadan; Fedd-the-Indigent Programme, by which hundreds of people get cooked and raw food on Eid-el-Fitri and Eid-el-Kabir days; the National Unity Ramadan Lecture; Al-Habibiyyah AIDS and Health Programme; Hajj Volunteers; the Annual Youth workshop for Muslim Teenagers; visits and presentation of gifts to Motherless Babies’ Home in Karu, the Leper Colony in Jikwoi, and demobilsed soldiers in Zone 4, Abuja. There are so many other activites and programmes that Al-Habibiyyah currently has in the pipeline. They include the National Unity Conference, which will be the rallying point for all Muslims in Nigeria, and even beyond, to come together and dialogue about the needed progress of the Ummah. Presently, there are requests by some cities to have branches of the Society established there. The Al-Habibiyyah story is thus a confirmation of Allah’s promise in the Holy Qur’an that if we heed His call, He will not only heed ours too but also establish our feet firmly on Earth. Thus, the Society, which started with fewer than a dozen students at its Academy – out of whom only 4 (four) graduated, now boasts several hundreds of active members, many of whom are prominently successful men and women of our great country. At her last graduation ceremony on July 14, 2008, a total of 160 (One Hundred and Sixty) students graduated from the Academy. Insha Allah, the figure is expected to grow further next year.
